Our History
More than twenty years ago I met a Bernese Mountain dog for the first time.
Two year old 'Monty' walked into the grooming shop where I was working at the time-- "looking for a home" his owner stated.
Later that afternoon Monty walked into the lives of my home and family as well.
In the years following, I was always impressed by the inherent gentleness of the breed; often displayed toward even the smallest child; Younger, smaller , - Other creatures in general.
When he passed away many years later we felt the loss deeply...
Since then, there have been more Berners who have graced our lives; All of them members of our family, joining us in our many activities over the years ; hiking in the woods, camping, snow-shoeing, -- and, typical of the Breed -- If not actually BEING the center of attention, - at least Very Close to it : )
We believe Strongly in the importance of Reputable Breeders who will be there as a continueing sorce of support for each puppy owner & their dogs throughout the Lifetime of the dog -- whether they be questions on behavior training,Health issues, or just sharing news in general.
We decided to start showing the Berners we had in AKC dog shows as a hobby about ten years ago; Just five or six local shows a year, mostly, until just a few years ago; when we realized, Hey- this is addictive! - as well as fun! So now we are actively showing several of our dogs at any given time, finding in this passion also, a great opportunity to travel and see places we've never been before, as well as meeting up with old friends and making new acquaintances : ) We have, since added New champions to the RiverMountain name, and plan on beginning carting in the future, and some of the other enjoyable pursuits that The Bernese was bred for ~
I guess as they say-- the rest is history ~
And Rivermountain became our future ~
